Research Area:The mission of our research programs is to elucidate cellular and molecular events involved in vascular dysfunction in hypertension, atherosclerosis, and diabetes, to uncover novel relevant biomarkers for vascular dysfunction, and develop venues to reverse vascular function and aging in animal models of cardio-metabolic diseases in hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, atherosclerosis, as well as to train top-quality research students. Our main research focuses on vascular smooth muscle cell dysfunction and functional communication between vessel and other organs such as liver, kidney, and adipose tissue, with a particular focus on the role of hypoxia-inducible factors and nuclear receptors in the above disease.
